CHOICES
Choices, St. Michaels’ alternative
education center offers students between the ages of 16-20 a second chance at
success. This program is highly individualized and capped at a maximum of 12
students per semester. The goal is to help students catch up on missed credits,
which will lead to their graduation.
We teach these students to be all-round good citizens, as well as academic achievers.
Since opening, we have had 44 students enrolled who have received 115 credits;
8 have graduated with their OSSD. Others have returned to the regular school
environment, or have entered the world of work.
Students start the day with a nutritious breakfast on site; something they’ve
planned for, shopped for and prepared themselves, thanks to a grant from the
Huron Perth Health Unit. Three times per week they work out at the YMCA and
at various times volunteer for such community activities as tree planting, Christmas
hamper collection, etc.
“I came to Choices seeing no hope for the future because I thought that
I had messed up too badly to obtain any credits,” wrote one Choices student.
“You proved me wrong by pushing me to achieve what I wanted to achieve”
“ Thanks for a great year!”
This program is another way that St.Michaels strives to provide the best education
possible for all our students.
